Empire of the Sun Example of Play: Turn 2, 1942 Campaign Game

Japan Offensive #3

Ants(2)
Activate CF HQ for an OC Offensive = 2(logistic) + 3(HQ) = 5 activations

Movement

The border of Burma is attacked with a 2OC (as opposed to a 3OC) to prevent the 12-12 India corps from being able to reinforce (because it needs 3 movement points to do so). Two elite air units are committed to the battle so that if the Allies react, Japan can hopefully inflict high losses. Because the 21st moved from Tainan, the MA and SW HQs are currently in supply. But since none of the units they could activate can join the battle, they are not able to use their brief resumption of a supply line.

Reaction

Burma

Burma Offensive.

The CA Exter could join the battle as well but would not increase the chances of inflicting a loss on Japan and would make the maximum losses on the Allies 4 steps (currently it is 3).

Combat

A costly battle for both sides.

Post Battle Movement

Supply is once again cut to the SW and MA HQs.

USA Offensive #3

Pass #2

Japan Offensive #4

Indian Worker’s Strike(3)
Activate CF HQ for an OC Offensive = 2(logistic) + 3(HQ) = 5 activations

Movement

Tarakan

Invasion of Tarakan

Reaction

Combat

Post Battle Movement

Japanese Resources to 6

The Japanese CAs stay with their respective 4-6 SNF forces for follow-up invasions.

US Offensive #4

Halsey Carrier Raids(2)
Activate CPAC HQ for an OC Offensive = 2(logistic) + 3(HQ) = 5 activations

Movement

It is important that you leave a CV or non-LRB air unit in Pearl Harbor at all times. If you don’t, Japan can send a carrier to raid Pearl and put CPAC out of supply during the raid which will take away your ability to react with CPAC. The movement of the Wake Brigade to Tarawa is more about giving Japan an additional battle hex than anything else. Sending this brigade on a deep raid to say Marcus or Iwo Jima is fun but not very useful. At Tarawa, the US can react so taking it will be more difficult now for Japan.

No battles declared so Reaction and Combat are skipped. No Post Battle Movement for the US (though the air units are technically eligible for PBM since they did not strategically move).

Japan Offensive #5

China Operation-Doolittle Reprisal(2)
Activate CF HQ for an EC Offensive = 2(logistic) + 3(HQ) = 5 activations

Movement

Soerabaja

Invasion of Soerabaja

Reaction

Combat

Post Battle Movement

Japanese Resources to 7

US Offensive #5

Tornado Taskforce(2)
Activate CPAC HQ for an OC Offensive = 2(logistic) + 3(HQ) = 5 activations

Movement

The US was careful to not attack a hex within 13 hexes of the Japanese carriers in Tokyo. This prevents Japan from getting a free move to redeploy the main carrier fleet south

Reaction

Marshalls

Raid on the Marshall Islands

Combat

Disappointing result for the US but it could have been disasterous if Japan had intercepted with a large carrier task force.

Post Battle Movement

This was a risky move for the US. Japan could have reacted with the BB Nagato, CV Akagi, 21st AF and CA Aoba for a total strength of 74. Even with Heroic Repairs, the US would be at risk of losing a PW for not having any carriers.
