HCR #1

Replay of Here Comes the Rebels,
Scenario 7: The Maryland Campaign

This is my first solitaire replay of HCR using the new victory conditions published in Skirmisher II. The original victory conditions make it too easy for the Confederates to raid Maryland and slip back to Virginia before having to stand up and fight. The new conditions make the game more competitive for both sides.

I also decided to test a variant rule for Stonewall Jackson. In this game, his tactical rating is always a 4 (instead of 5/4) and his leader activation drm is +3 (instead of +2). The thought behind these changes is that Jackson was able to move his troops quickly over long distances (and such marches are difficult to replicate in the system). Additionally, Jackson didn't seem to be tactically superior to Longstreet. Jackson's success was almost always the result of his operational genius, namely his ability to bring battle when the enemy didn't expect it.

As usual, the Standard Series rules are used, along with the changes to the HCR campaign game published in Skirmisher I and II. This playout occurred from October 2003 to December 2003.

At Start

HCR1 start
Starting positions of the Union army in Washington. Units rotated 90 degrees are "uncommitted" at the start of the game. Uncommitted units may not activate until they are committed via random events.
