GCACW Tactics:River Crossings
River Crossing Examples
The River Crossing Examples come from a hypothetical OTR scenario, pitting the Union III and IV corps with the artillery reserve against the demi-divisions of DH Hill and Longstreet (with Johnston on the field). The Union forces are attempting to cross the Pamunkey near Hanoverton. The Confederates have destroyed all the nearby ferries and are preparing to destroy Nelson's Bridge. Two crossing examples are presented, a poorly executed crossing followed by a well exectuted operation.
For those following along at home, the specific orders of battle for each example are as follows:
| Confederate Order of Battle | |
| Unit | Strength |
| Pickett(L) | 8 |
| RH Anderson(L) | 10 |
| Early-B(H) | 15 |
| Rains-B(H) | 11 |
Union Order of Battle |
|
| Unit | Strength |
| Porter(III) | 21 |
| Kearny(III) | 18 |
| Smith-A(IV) | 19 |
| Couch(IV) | 17 |
